Zürich, 11 June 2006

Dear Colleagues,
Dear Students,

With great sadness we inform you that our dear colleague Ian Baker died fully unexpectedly of heart failure in London on Saturday, June 10th 2006, at the age of 74. Ian was a Participant and Training Analyst of ISAPZURICH. We have lost a valued colleague, a singular personality, a good friend.

Ian Baker was a specialist in mythology. He imparted his knowledge over many years at the Institute and later at ISAP with vitality and inspiration. Just as much, he passed on his tremendous wisdom in the areas of literature, music, ethnology and mysticism. He was extraordinarily well read and had an enviable memory with seemingly endless capacities for absorption.

His vast knowledge benefited the students and international audiences who attended his lectures and talks in Switzerland and abroad – and it infused his everyday discussion. Ian was a lively and fascinating story teller, whose communications unfailingly challenged us with an especially British brand of scurrility.

He was very committed to ISAP and its growing needs: He was a member of the Program Committee – and moreover, a Promotion Committee member, an active participant in numbered meetings, a Training Analyst, examiner, regular instructor. He would have been the keynote speaker for the 2nd half of the Jungian Odyssey 2006.

We will greatly miss Ian Baker. We will hold him in memory as a forceful personality, an outstanding teacher and a spirited, humorous and endearing person.

The funeral service will take place in London in the intimacy of Ian’s family circle. Condolences can be sent to: Antoinette Baker, Seestrasse 98, CH-8712 Stäfa. We will let you know as soon as possible about a memorial service to be held by ISAP.

In grief,
on behalf of the Officers Committee,

Dr. Paul Brutsche
President
